“To be Mary for Jesus, to be Mary everywhere and always.”
What pretension! But let us read to the end of the quotation:
“as far as our miseries and weaknesses permit…,
and all without pomp and noise.” (Letter of July 2nd 1862)
These two accents,
radicality and humility,
are constantly found in the life of
Emilie d’Oultremont, d’Hooghvorst,
Foundress of the Society of Marie Reparatrice/Mary Reparatrix:
an immense spiritual ambition
and at the same time a loving attention to little things.
In this, she is certainly the daughter of Saint Ignatius,
for whom, out of love for Christ,
the call can be to pray and work untiringly
for the greater glory of God. |
